Our brides and grooms love us because of our knowledge and experience with many different music genres. It's natural for Indian wedding couples to seek our advice on what would be the best fit for them for all of their key wedding moments. Half of the Indian weddings we DJ are with both the bride and groom being of South Asian descent (Hindu, Christian or Muslim). The other half of the weddings we do are mixed or fusion weddings where one person is from South Asian descent and the other is not (White, Black, Hispanic or Asian).
In 1994, we did our first Indian wedding. Who would have guessed that 24 years later, the company would grow into a team of 12 amazing DJ's that travel around the world making memories for couples. We are truly blessed to do what we love and love what we do. Thousands of couples have trusted us with the biggest and best days of their lives. We wanted to figure out a way to help couples during various parts of their journey from getting engaged to being married. The first part of our blogs focused on Venues, followed by Vendors, and now it's time for Music.
When the couple leaves the mandap it signifies the bride leaving her home and moving to the groom's house. This could be 5 minutes from your parents' house, across the globe, or you could be staying in the same house you were living in last week. One thing remains the same, crying, and lots of it. This is one of the parts that really puts everyone in their feels, even us. It was always super sad music that made you want to cry. Modern brides have decided to use happier songs to make their vidai (bidai if you are from North India) quicker and with a lot less crying. This made us feel so much better to see tears of joy from the parents and appreciation of parents from the bride.
When coming up with the Top 11 Indian Wedding Vidai Songs, we based it on the following::
- Although some brides are leaving the ballroom using instrumental music, most still plan on leaving to songs with words. This blog only focuses on Hindi/Punjabi music that is either in Bollywood music or covers of songs.
- We have seen many brides either use these songs or consider using these songs.
- We wanted to give you many options so you can use the best one for you and ignore the ones that don't make sense for you.
- We have put together this list with a mix of happy and emotional songs but both make sense lyrically.
- Focus on listening to the song and not watching the video. Don't overlook the perfect song because you don't like the video. No one will see the video, they will all be watching you.
The following Top 11 Indian Wedding Vidai Songs are ranked based on what we have seen used most often within the last few years.
1) Kabira (Encore) - Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani
This song truly deserves to be the first place on the Top 11 Indian Wedding Vidai Songs list. Ever since this album was released in 2013, brides started using it for their vidai ceremony. There are two versions of this song. Make sure you use the Encore version which is by Harshdeep and Arijit Singh. This is currently what most brides are using now. Fill out the form on this page and we will send you an email with all these songs on a playlist. If you are looking for entrance songs without words, check out our instrumental ceremony entrance blog.
2) Kehta Hai Baabul - Baabul
This song may sound sad to you, but wait till you hear the other songs on this list. This songs came out in 2006 and we couldn't wait to suggest this to brides at that time. Prior to Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani coming out, this was the best option. There are two versions of this song on the Baabul soundtrack. One by Jagjit Singh and one by Amitabh Bachchan. To be honest, the Jagjit version sounds better, but since most dads love Amitabh Bachchan, this got used more often. If your dad likes Amitabh, you can make his day by picking this song. Fill out the form on this page and we will send you an email with all these songs on a playlist. If you are looking for entrance songs with words, check out our ceremony entrance blog.
3) Babul Ki Duayen Leti Ja - Neel Kamal
If the Top 11 Indian Wedding Vidai Songs list was based on the last 5 decades, this song would be number 1. We are so glad brides over time decided to go in a different direction. If your parents got married in the 70's, this was probably played at their wedding. As soon as this song starts, I begin thinking about brides crying. Make your parents hear this song and ask them about their wedding. It will give you some perspective of what was important then verses now.
4) Ye Betiyan To Babul Ki - Na Tum Jaano Na Hum
Most people don't know this movie or song. This is a good option for someone looking for a song that has good lyrics, hasn't been used often and doesn't sound like something that was played at your parents wedding. Jaspinder Narula definitely has a Punjabi flavor in her voice but this song could be used by any bride. If you need a song for the grooms entrance, check out our blog.
5) Heer - Jab Tak Hai Jaan
Jab Tak Hai Jaan (Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma) has music by A.R. Rahman (the best musician in India) and sung by Harshdeep Kaur. When this song first came out in 2012, we heard it being played at every wedding. Its one of those forgotten songs that needs to make a comeback. We still hear it at weddings but not as often as we used to. I wouldn't be surprised if this becomes popular again for vidai songs in the near future. Fill out the form on this page and we will send you an email with all these songs on a playlist. Need a planner for your wedding? Check out the Top 10.
6) Dilbaro - Raazi
Harshdeep Kaur makes her third appearance on the Top 11 Indian Wedding Vidai Songs list. She seems to be taking over when it comes to singing vidai songs in Bollywood. This is the newest song on our list and has also been used the least amount of times for Vidai ceremonies. That won't last long. Within a few years, don't be surprised if this ends up at the top of the list. 7) Madhaniya – Neha Bhasin
Neha Bhasin's rendition of the Punjabi Folk Vidai song Madhaniya is the first of five songs on the Top 11 Indian Wedding Vidai Songs list that isn't from a Bollywood movie. I assumed every time we used this song it would be for one of our Hindu Punjabi Brides. To my surprise, it was recently used by one of our Gujarati brides.
8) Ladki - Coke Studio
This is the only track from Coke Studio that made the Top 11 Indian Wedding Vidai Songs list. If you haven't heard of Coke studio, you are missing out. Think of an intimate concert with your favorite artists. Its a mix of Bollywood acoustic covers and original melodious songs. This has a Gujarati folk feel to it. It is used most often by our Gujarati Hindu brides. The popularity of the track will eventually lead to it being remade in Bollywood (maybe). It's one of those hidden gems we shared with our brides but now are trying to help many other brides by making these blogs. Hope this helps many people. Fill out the form on this page and we will send you an email with all these songs on a playlist.
9) Chal Le Chal by Deevangi Chopra
This song was made by The Wedding Filmer (an amazing Video company from India). Many videographers stopped using popular music in their video edits because of copyright issues with music. These guys started making their own songs and covers for their videos. We have had brides request these songs and thats how we were introduced to them. Because of our relationship with them, they send us audio versions of their songs that are not released online. So if you, need a DJ that can make your wedding unique, contact us here.
10) Laadli by AR Rahman and Lata Mangeshkar
Tell your mom you want your Vidai song to be one by Lata Mangeshkar and she will probably hug you. Then tell her she has never heard this song before (I don't think many people know this song) and you want to introduce this her. This is another one of those hidden gems from the Top 11 Indian Wedding Vidai Songs list. If you use any of these songs, send us an email and let us know or post it on one of our social media pages. We want to help as many people as we can.
11) Meri Laado by Jatinder Singh
The Top 11 Indian Wedding Vidai Songs list ends with another great creation by The Wedding Filmer. We have been djing weddings for over 24 years and have been a part of thousands of them. This track isn't for everyone, but it really tugs at our heart strings. Not many fathers of daughters can hear this song without crying. Fill out the form on this page and we will send you an email with all these songs on a playlist.
