Written by DJ Riz Entertainment | May 13, 2019 1:30:00 PM

Over the past 25 years, we have worked with thousands of amazing couples across the world. Recently we have seen many couples spend a lot of time, money and energy trying to figure out what to do. Todays amazing decor companies strive to help couples ranging from ones that know exactly what they want to others that need a lot guidance. Check out some of those companies in our blog here. Across the world we have seen Indian wedding receptions online and in person that might've really benefited from this blog. Although we can't help them, we would like to help you in your planning process.

When making this blog we kept our couples in mind. Half of the Indian weddings we DJ are with both the bride and groom being of South Asian descent (Hindu, Christian or Muslim). The other half of the weddings we do are mixed or fusion weddings where one person is from South Asian descent and the other is not (White, Black, Hispanic or Asian). Our blog post was designed with our couples in mind, as we have experience with a wide range of Indian weddings. Some are traditional and involve both the bride and groom being of South Asian descent (Hindu, Christian, or Muslim), while others are fusion weddings where one partner is of South Asian descent and the other is not (White, Black, Hispanic, or Asian).

Regardless of the type of wedding, the reception is always the most anticipated event. It's a time for couples to let loose and celebrate with loved ones. That's why it's crucial to have a room layout that supports your vision and creates a seamless flow for the evening.

5 Tips for Indian Wedding Reception Layouts Notes:

  • We have seen how couples, their families and guests react throughout the event
  • Decorators know how to make the room look beautiful when empty but what about when people are there
  • This should help you figure out what you want and need.
  • We have also included 5 different layouts
  • The sweetheart table is usually across from the stage near the dance floor

5 Tips for Indian Wedding Reception Layouts are ranked in order of questions we normally get.

Tips for Indian Wedding Reception Layouts

1) Buffet stations outside

For those opting for a plated dinner, this may not apply. However, for the majority of Indian wedding receptions with buffet-style dining, it's best to keep the buffet stations outside the main reception area. Not only does it prevent the clutter of tables and noise during important speeches, but it also enhances the overall aesthetic of the room. Can you imagine trying to enjoy a heartfelt speech while staring at a noisy buffet setup? To gain a better understanding, take a look at the diagram below for typical reception setups, with the dance floor positioned in the center. 2) Bars stay inside

If you want your guests to dance and socialize rather than just drink, it's best to keep the bar inside the reception area. This way, they can hear the music better and be closer to the dance floor, making it easier for them to let loose and have fun. In fact, we've seen layouts that bring the bar even closer to the dance floor, creating a lively atmosphere that will keep your guests on their feet all night long. Don't make the mistake of putting the bar outside and regretting it later – keep it inside and watch the party come to life. If you need a planner for your wedding, check out our blog

3) Cake, Cake, Cake 🎶

When it comes to your wedding cake, there are a lot of factors to consider. Do you want it to have a grand backdrop or riser? Will it be a real cake or a stunning faux design with just one real layer for the ceremonial cutting? If you opt for the latter, consider placing it on one side of the main stage instead of in a separate area. This way, you can make the most of your stage decor and avoid any unnecessary walks in formal attire. Check out our suggested layout where the DJ is situated directly across from the main stage. To ensure a successful reception, it's important for the DJ and MC to have clear non-verbal communication, so make sure the DJ is positioned on a riser for a clear view of the room. 4) Wheres the DJ? 👋 Right here!

Weddings in India, Dubai, London, and Canada have already figured it out - the reception is the ultimate party! It's the moment when all of your favorite people are in one place and the traditional parts of the wedding weekend are done. If you're looking for a contemporary layout to match this mindset, consider optimizing your stage for the perfect photo opportunities and leaving the dance floor for the real action. Don't waste time and money on a stage you won't even use - work with your decorator to create a theme that matches your vision and includes furniture and decor in front of the DJ to tie everything together. 5) Head tables

The head table is a special area reserved for your nearest and dearest, and it's typically located closest to the stage for the best view of the event. However, some layouts make the mistake of placing these tables too close to the dance floor, which can be uncomfortable for your loved ones, particularly older guests. To avoid this issue, we recommend moving the first row of tables 10-15 feet away from the stage, keeping them away from the main sound in the ballroom. The main sound system is usually positioned near the dance floor, ensuring the right level of sound when the dancing starts. For optimal seating arrangements, consider seating your younger family members and friends closer to the main stage, and your older family members in the second or third table in that row. This way, they'll still have an unobstructed view of the program while being kept away from loud music. Don't forget to check out the fifth and final layout we've shared, which has the bar moved closer to the dance floor - perfect for couples who want to party!  If you are looking for other tips on working with your decorator, check out our blog.
