Adulting is hard but starting your married life right is worth it. Having the best wedding date will help you tremendously.
When making this blog we kept our couples in mind. Half of the Indian weddings we DJ are with both the bride and groom being of South Asian descent (Hindu, Christian or Muslim). The other half of the weddings we do are mixed or fusion weddings where one person is of South Asian descent and the other is not (White, Black, Hispanic or Asian).
10 Tips for Setting Your Indian Wedding Date Notes:
These are ranked in terms of importance.
Most couples will set their wedding date 6 months to 2 years from the day they get engaged. For some couples, 6 months may seem way too soon. For others, 2 years may feel like an eternity. Figure out the right timeframe for you first. Most couples will spend about 12 months planning.
Couples may choose to get married on the anniversary of when they met, started dating, proposal or engagement. Some may choose either persons birthday. Others will pick valentines day or New Years Eve. People will also use dates that are easy to remember. Some will look for the year and the day to match. October 20, 2020 (10/20/20). This is also great for hashtags. Here are some tips on hashtags.
Some couples dream of summer weddings while others want a winter one. Maybe you prefer fall or spring. Think about what season you both enjoy. Also, fill in the form on this page and we will send you a list of over 200 Indian Wedding Hashtags.
Once you figure out the right season, think about the weather during each month in that season. Select the month that makes the most sense to you. Weather plays a big role in how you feel and dress.
The city you plan on getting married in, plays a big role in your wedding date. Imagine a huge convention, fireworks, professional sporting event, or walk the same day as your wedding. This can be a logistical nightmare for you along with your guests and vendors. Keeping everyone on time would be close to impossible.
If you love a venue and have dreamed of getting married there, you better make sure its available. We recommend booking this before booking any vendor, even us. But once you have it booked, we would love to hear from you. You can contact us here. Shameless plug, but we love weddings too much to not ask you to consider us to be a part of your big day.
As much as we want to be your favorite vendor, we know there are times when a couples main focus may be somewhere else. We still love ya. If you want a certain decorator, photographer, videographer, planner, makeup artist, henna artist, etc make sure they are available for your wedding weekend. Every year there are a few couples that will change their dates just to make sure we are there for them. Sometimes its not possible because they have already set a date. If you have a vendor you really want, check for availability before setting your date.
There was a time where everyone wanted to get married during a long weekend. The benefit was 1 extra day off work or school (if you have lots of young children in the family). There are usually a lot of Indian weddings that take place during these weekends. Which means both venues and vendors may be scarce. If you book early enough you will be fine. If you wait then this could cause a lot of stress in your life. Usually the weekend right before or after a long weekend is a great time to plan a wedding.
Every year there are a few random weekends that are really busy for Indian Weddings. There is no rhyme or reason for it. If you don't know that you have selected one of these weekends and have already booked some of your vendors and venue, there isn't much you can do. Our suggestion is book all of the vendors no matter how small or big, as soon as you find out. If you already know that there are a lot of weddings going on in a particular weekend and have not booked the venue or vendor, change your date. We shared this advice with many couples last year. The ones that listened, thanked us for it. The ones that didn't all had horror stories to tell about inexperienced vendors, everything running late, and even some vendors not showing up at all.
Close your eyes and think about your wedding weekend. Who are the people you imagine around you. Think about your closest friends and family. The ones that you can't imagine getting married without. Make sure you communicate that date you have picked to them right away. This way they can plan around your date. You don't want them not having enough vacation days, planning a trip somewhere else, getting pregnant, or missing it for any other reason. Someone you are really close to may have a genuine reason to be busy during that time. Having a baby, big work meeting/conference, MCATs, LSATs, etc. If you have the opportunity of changing your date before booking your venue or vendors than you may consider it. Just be careful of the domino effect. What if you change the date and someone else can't make it. Always tell people in the priority of you wanting them to be there. Also don't stress about the perfect hashtag. We have already created a list of the best Indian Wedding Hashtags for over 200 of the most popular last names. Fill out the form on this page and we will email it to you.
